What Does “Omelette Du Fromage” Mean.. Really?
We get asked this more often than you’d think. At events, on calls, on LinkedIn, even by the delivery guy bringing our groceries. “So what does it mean, Omelette du Fromage?” And honestly? Fair question. Because it sounds French (check), it sounds culinary (double check), but what does it really say? Time to solve the mystery once and for all.

A Silly Name For A Serious Agency?

Picture this: you’re in a meeting. Someone mentions our name, Omelette du Fromage, and suddenly you see it in their eyes, a mix of confusion, curiosity and… hunger?

You’re not the first. “So do you do something with eggs?” Nope. “Are you a French catering company?” Not that either. “Is there some deep philosophical meaning behind it?” Mwah, sort of. But mostly: it’s a wink. A tribute. And a brilliant mistake.

What It Should Be (And Why It’s Just Wrong)

Let’s be honest: “Omelette du Fromage” is simply grammatically wrong. In French you’d say “omelette au fromage”: omelette with cheese. “Du” means something like “of the”, which isn’t quite the right sauce here.

But that’s exactly what makes it so good. Or so we think..

Because something that’s just slightly off sticks. The French will raise an eyebrow, while we quietly laugh, with a little embarrassment and a lot of love.

Quick French lesson, then?

  • du fromage = of the cheese
  • au fromage = with cheese
  • de fromage = made with cheese
  • Omelette du Fromage = cult classic and amazing online marketing agency

dexter’s laboratory: the episode that changed everything

It all started in 1996. A little boy with a big secret lab. Dexter tries to learn French to impress. He falls asleep with a cassette recorder that only repeats “Omelette du Fromage”. The next morning, it’s the only thing he can say.

And that’s all he says. Literally.

“Omelette du Fromage?”

“Omelette du Fromage!”

“Omelette… du Fromaaaaaage.”

Everyone loves it. Girls swoon, teachers applaud, even security systems melt. It’s absurd, brilliant and completely illogical, just the way we like it.

For the nostalgic among us: watch the clip here. But be warned: it gets stuck in your head. For days, maybe even years
